How to Manage Muscle Soreness from Working Out

Do you often have sore muscles after an intense workout? If so, then you know how painful that sore muscles can be to endure throughout the day. Here are just a few things that you can do to help ease your muscle pain.

Stretch Those Muscles!
Stretching is the most important thing to do before and after working out. Spend just 5 minutes stretching before a workout to loosen up your muscles enough so that they can handle the stress of your exercise routine. This prevents potential serious injuries to your muscles. If you are in the middle of an exercise and you begin to experience muscle cramps, you should stop whatever you are doing and massage that painful part while you are stretching your cramped muscles.

Take Anti Inflammatory Medications

There are many types of over-the-counter anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen that will help to ease your sore muscles. Though this will not heal your discomforts, it will provide temporary relief while you relax and recover.

Soak in a Hot Bath

When you feel muscle pains, it is advisable to take a hot bath and submerge your sore body parts for at least 30 minutes. The hot water will relax the inflamed muscles to provide a little relief from the pain. You can also add a cup of Epsom salt to your bathwater to help ease muscle pain and also detoxify the body. The salt draws out the toxins that the muscles have accumulated through your skin.

Use Topical Analgesic Creams

One of the oldest remedies to relieve sore muscles is by applying a topical analgesic cream such as Ben Gay or Icy Hot to the affected areas to help relieve muscle pain. These products produce heat when the area is massaged with the cream, and it also produces a cool feeling that helps to numb the pain.

Go To A Doctor and Ask for Muscle Relaxers

Sometimes sore muscles cannot be treated well enough to provide relief. In this case, you may want to go to a doctor to get a prescription medication for a muscle relaxer. This medication helps relieve the pain of sore muscles, while also decreasing inflammation and reducing stiffness to help you be able to move without so much pain.

Get a Muscle Massage

Massages always seem to help sore muscles. You should gently massage the painful areas for awhile until the pain begins to subside. By massaging your sore muscles, you are increasing blood flow to the area to help your muscles heal faster.
